About My Addiction Physician™

Herbert N. Avart, DO is the Founder of My Addiction Physician and specializes in the treatment & rehabilitation of individuals who are dependent or addicted to prescription pain medications, heroin, opiates, and/or alcohol, as well as patients suffering with opiate-dependent chronic pain.  Dr. Avart also treats patients who are investigating ways to safely get off bupenorphine/naloxone (Suboxone/Zubsolv). However, this is NOT a 12-step program — it is so much more than that.

Dr. Avart created My Addiction Physician out of a deep desire to approach addiction treatment issues more comprehensively and personally than the traditionally predominant models of drug addiction treatment and recovery. He recognizes that each patient brings to him an entirely unique set of circumstances and that the typical “one size fits all” approaches to addiction treatment and recovery so prevalent in today’s healthcare community are not producing successful outcomes.  He cites that the core failure of most drug addiction treatment programs is the lack of focus on restoring independence to the individual.

Recovering from drug addiction is ALL about restoring the independence of the addicted individual and that’s exactly what My Addiction Physician helps you to do!

Addiction Treatment that Restores Independence

Dr. Avart created My Addiction Physician out of a deep desire to approach addiction treatment issues more comprehensively and personally by “picking people up wherever they are at” and helping them build a recovery plan based on their unique needs and circumstances. We do this in a coordinated, continuous and comprehensive fashion that impacts quality of life and restores independence (i.e. to self-direct and perform all the skills, routines and activity patterns that comprise each person’s life).

My Addiction Physician also incorporates medically managed withdrawal and medically assisted treatment, as well as physiologic skill training to achieve successful and enduring outcomes. Dr. Avart recognizes that each patient brings to him an entirely unique set of circumstances and that the typical “one size fits all” approaches to addiction treatment and recovery so prevalent in today’s healthcare community are not producing lasting outcomes. He cites that the core failure of most drug addiction treatment programs is the lack of a meaningful doctor-patient relationship that transcend’s the traditional “silos of addiction treatment” and focuses on restoring independence to the individual.

Recovering from drug addiction is ALL about restoring the independence of the addicted individual and that’s exactly what My Addiction Physician helps you to do!

Our Treatment Approach

Decades of clinical experience with chronic pain and addiction has led Dr. Avart to the development of a truly comprehensive, nonjudgmental and engaging rehabilitation program that can be effectively employed for virtually anyone with heroin, prescription pain medication, or opiate use disorders, as well as those who suffer with alcohol use disorder or chronic pain. Dr. Avart’s flexible and responsive treatment approach to addiction make sense because it is physiologic — or as defined by Webster’s dictionary, “characteristic of, or appropriate to an organism’s healthy or normal functioning.” The program’s ultimate goal is long-term, successful rehabilitation of both the body and the mind and full restoration of independence to the individual.

While Dr. Avart’s addiction treatment programs are all customized to each unique individual, all treatment programs contain five essential Ingredients for Success designed to build a physiologic skill set to promote independence, quality of life and functionality.

The Ingredient for Success include: physical strength, a growth mindset, patient-family-centered treatment, faith and spirituality, and medically assisted treatment.

However, Dr. Avart’s programs are NOT limited or hand-tied by meaningless steps or structure and can be integrated within a 12-step model when appropriate. In fact, every treatment plan at My Addiction Physician is constructed uniquely and with careful consideration to each patient’s diagnoses, life circumstances, and comfort level. All patients are different, so any successful drug addiction treatment program must be flexible and responsive to the unique needs of everyone.
